Here's the practical translation. Not motivation. Not a mindset shift. Mechanics.
Step 1: Name the specific task, not the vague goal. "I want to be more productive" doesn't generate a self-efficacy belief — it's too diffuse to hold one. "I want to complete a focused writing session of 20 minutes" is specific enough that your brain can maintain a belief about it. Get that precise.
Step 2: Find the smallest real version of that task you can complete in the next hour. Not a preparation for the task. Not an adjacent activity. The actual task, at a dramatically reduced scale. Two paragraphs. One set. A two-sentence email to the person you've been avoiding. The goal is a mastery experience — your brain needs a successful completion, not proximity to one.
